The University of Calgary Ballroom Dance Club is Calgary's longest running and biggest dance club, with over 600 members at the end of the 2009-2010 year. We have been in existence since 1975, offering a friendly, social place to learn and to dance. As stated in our bylaws, the purpose of this not-for-profit Club is to encourage and promote ballroom dancing through instruction and practice in a social atmosphere.
We teach many different classes each week: 3 levels of Social classes, 3 levels of International classes, and 2 levels of Country classes, and 1 Latin class, offering them at a variety of times and locations. All of our upper level classes are taught by professional instructors. The lower level classes are taught by trained volunteer instructors. Most of our classes also have teaching assistants who are trained to help students and to assist the instructor.
Each dance year we typically hold seven theme dances where members can meet and practice the skills they have learned in a social setting. We usually hold two special dinner dances, one before Christmas, and the other in the spring, where members can dress up and show off their skills.
